What is the difference between trichlor and dichlor

You should get your own good test kit: either the Taylor K you can get at a good online price here or the TF from tftestkits. I think my test kit is K, but it still has the CYA test I'm showing about 65 myself that is a very subjective test, but I squint real hard and put in drops til I can't see the dot even while squinting!

Yesterday was a cloudy day and only about 92 here and I still had chlorine at the end of the day so that was much better. I think that in the summer, I'm just going to have to view the pool like my dog and feed it every day!

The local YMCA actually had to close their pool yesterday morning because it tested for zero chlorine I think it's just something about this hot sunny weather we've been having in Texas. I'm thinking your right also, this direct sunlight and high temps is hard to deal with. Do you use a chlorinator, it seems to help me a bunch! I was getting uncomfortable with the amount of CYA that would put in the pool I had just drained it to drop my CYA down , so I turned it off and went to just the liquid chlorine.

I'll turn the auto-feed back on when I head out on vacation though. Yeah I understand, there has got to be a simpler way to counter act CYA levels. Draining is such a pain, especially if your on a city water supply!! Trichlor has more chlorine by weight and less CYA by weight than "pure" anhydrous Dichlor.

But the chlorine makes the Trichlor weigh more per molecule so the net effect is that in 10, gallons 1 pound of Trichlor gives Part of the inefficiency of dichlor is that you are buying water with it in "dry" form as it is a hydrated crystal with the Dichlor.

But anhydrous Dichlor is far less common -- most is the dihydrate form. You can post now and register later. If you have an account, sign in now to post with your account.

Di-chlor Tri-chlor Vs. Share More sharing options When it dissolves in water, it produces hypochlorous acid and hypochlorite ion also known as free available chlorine. The hypochlorous acid acts as a biocide. Dichlor is the short name for dichloro-s-triazinetrione. This compound is available in two forms as dihyrate form or anhydrous form.

Therefore, it is useful in treating water in swimming pools, spa, and hot tubs. Application of this compound to water increases of residual chlorine level required to kill pathogenic organisms in water. It also acts as an algaecide as well as a sanitizer. Unlike the application of trichlor, the application of dichlor slightly reduces the pH and total alkalinity. This compound is completely water soluble. It also produces hypochlorous acid and hypochlorite ion when dissolved in water.

Dichlor is typically sold in granular form. However, it depends on the its form: dihydrate form or anhydrous form. Trichlor and dichlor are two forms of chlorine containing-compounds used in cleaning water of swimming pools, spa and hot tubs. Available here. LifeTime Supporter.

Most people have reported reasonable correlations of amounts with expected CYA level. It is the monosodium salt of CYA in a slurry so it dissolves quickly. You would need Generally, Trichlor is the least expensive source of chlorine and is also the least expensive source of CYA except for pure CYA which you found out may not be pure.

It is very acidic so you also have to factor in the amount of base you will need to add to compensate or alkalinity if you just aerate to raise pH.
